The Myakka Initiative

Harmony with Nature.

From the Beginning

Preserving Myakka

We understand that many conversations and questions exist within the Myakka community about the future of this land. This website intends to provide clear, accurate, and factual information so that our neighbors, local officials, partners, guests, and future residents can see exactly what TerraNova Equestrian Center, The Estates at TerraNova, Miakka Estates and Miakka Golf Club is, and what it is not.

Our commitment is simple: full transparency, open communication, and long-term stewardship.

Our mission is straightforward:

Protect the land. Preserve the river. Respect the community.

This is not a development imposed on nature; it is a landscape shaped around it.

About Us

Who We Are?

TerraNova Equestrian Center, The Estates at TerraNova, Miakka Estates and Miakka Golf Club is made up of over 2,700-acre of land with one core principle: responsible stewardship of the Myakka region. Every acre, whether dedicated to sport, residential living, or permanent preservation, reflects our long-term commitment to protecting the land, water, wildlife, and rural character that defines this special place.

Philosophy

Our Land Use Philosophy

Every decision at TerraNova begins with the land itself, its hydrology, wildlife corridors, soil types, native habitats, and natural character.

This philosophy ensures long-term protection of the Myakka region while creating thoughtful spaces for equestrian sport, recreation, and limited residential living.

Working Steps

A Thoughtful Master Plan

Our 2,700 acres is made up of six distinct properties, each carefully planned to balance open space, responsible land use, ecological protection, and low-impact recreation. More than half the land will remain natural green space: forests, wetlands, prairies, and wildlife corridors preserved for the long term.

Transparent

Transparency About Planning & Rezoning

We believe the community deserves clarity and facts.

A previous rezoning proposal, which would have added 31 additional homes, was voluntarily withdrawn to maintain trust and open dialogue with neighbors and local officials.

The proposal would have shifted existing entitlements, not expanded development into preserved or environmentally sensitive areas.

The withdrawal reflects our commitment to collaboration, responsible planning, and community respect.

Our Promise to the Myakka Community

TerraNova will continue to:

Protect natural resources

Preserve open space

Support the rural character of Myakka

Communicate transparently

Exceed environmental standards

Be a thoughtful, respectful neighbor

We live here too, and we care deeply about this land, the river, and the people who call Myakka home.
